Setting severity/priority
Hi,
I don't see a possibility to configure a severity and/or priority. Obviously this is an important feature for a bug tracking system. How can I customize my project to include these fields?
thanks

Hey Ericka,
Actually, Lighthouse was designed around the principle that priorities are detrimental to your workflow and not important to a bug tracking system. Something is either important or it isn't and priorities just muddy things up.
http://www.43folders.com/2009/04/28/priorities is a great writeup that pretty much sums up exactly how we feel.
With that said, there IS a small priorities feature that is on Bronze or higher level plans which can be turned on from the account settings.

Hi Will,
Thank you for your response. I must say I disagree :). If you solely rely on priorities, then yes you are right, priorities can change over time. But this is not a problem. When reporting a defect, the tester however, should be able to indicate the severity of the defect - this is pretty constant in time. Then, within your milestone, you can create a relative priority with which you solve the issues, based on the severity.
For a small project/product, this is not so crucial. However, when projects and products become more complex/large, you can end up with a big mess.
Would be nice if you would allow custom fields so that we can set up a project as it best fits.
I am currently evaluating the free version. If you can point me to a place where I can read about a more flexible plan, let me know.
thanks
ericka

All Lighthouse plans are the same across all plans, except for the option to set priorities, which starts on the Bronze level plan.

Hi Will,
As a recently signed up user, I am enjoying LH and particularly happy with the email integration. There are a couple of areas that need improving though, which will be topics for other discussions when I have had a chance to explore LH a bit more.
On this particular topic, I agree with Ericka. IMHO LH would be a much better system if you introduced some way to record the order in which someone (collectively as an organization) has decided to attack that list. I am shying away from using the 'P' word because for some reason you guys seem to be so strongly opposed to it!
Again IMHO, Merlin Mann's thoughts are fairly valid when a single person is looking at their list/life but as soon as you have more than one person, and a large set of dynamic to-dos; a customizable attribute (call it "Hallelujah Scale" if you wish) would be super-handy.
Keep up the good work
Thanks
Karthik

You can re-order tickets in milestones, or enable ticket priorities as Will suggested. Beyond that, you might need a higher level project management tool.
