There's a Lighthouse API that you can use. We do have a backup feature without a UI yet, however. I can send you one if you need it. We've only had a single request for a backup so it hasn't exactly been high priority.

Will I be able to restore a project from that backup?

Yes, but not yet. There's no import function.
