Requests from Europe timing out regularly
Dear Lighthouse Crew,
we are using Lighthouse like crazy: We are very close to ticket #14,000.
There is however a major problem with me as the first employee working from the old continent: At least every other request to the Lighthouse website times out, showing a blank page.
It is independent from which ISP or computer/browser I use. I had the same problems I am having here in Germany last week in London.
Hitting refresh mostly brings up the page fast enough.
This is a major annoyance and costs me quite a lot of time. Is there anything besides tunneling lighthouse requests through an american VPN that I can do? Could you please look into this?
Thank you,
Michael

Sure. We host on AWS which should provide excellent connectivity.
How technically literate are you? Can you run a "mtr" trace for me?

Hey,
thanks for getting back to me.
Pretty literate. MTR output attached.
It's worst during the mornings here. Right now it looks fine. I would put some money on cron jobs... Just a thought might be completely wrong but we a similar issue once. Especially stuff clogging up the DB.
We host on AWS as well and I have absolutely no connectivity issues there so problems with the app server are most likely.
Another problem would be a faulty instance in the EBS but that would show up for US traffic as well and I never have timeouts while in the states...
Thanks,
Michael

Can you try putting this in your hosts file?
where "x" is your account name - and see if the problem still happens? (this is using a different load balancer)

I've tried it - did not help. Just had the same problem. It looks like it does establish a connection but the response times out. And it is worst around noon CET.
My money is still on cron jobs.

Yes, we do have some tasks that kick off around midnight pacific. I'll
investigate further and see how we can reduce the impact of that.

We've added some extra capacity to the database and it should be much better for you now.
