Numbered lists start at 1 no matter what

A colleague made a ticket comment like this:

  1. Something
  2. Something else

The colleague then inserted a side comment, like this.

  1. Some third thing
  2. Some fourth thing

The second list should have started with item 3, but it reset to item 1. This post suffers from the same problem. The generated email notification had the correct numbers, which caused further confusion.

    That's due to our markup engine's understanding of how your list is structured; since we use Markdown, you can't create lists like that (unfortunately). According to http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax , it may one day support it, but it doesn't currently.
