Italics in parenthesis do not render as italics (*lorem ipsum*)

I would expect the syntax:

(*lorem ipsum*)

To render the words "lorem ipsum" in italics surrounded by a pair of parenthesis. However, something causes the stars to appear as literal stars in the LH rendered output.

Test:

(*lorem ipsum*)

Looks like the following works with our Markdown flavor:

    ( *lorem ipsum* )

We'll take a look at why (*lorem ipsum*) doesn't work as expected, but for now Markdown code will need a space to work.

    Thanks,
    Nicole
