Image previews
Hi guys. It would be SUPER helpful to have thumbs of the images we upload into ticket comments. Is this something you are planning?

It is, and it's about 90% done. The problem is reprocessing all of the existing attachments. I tried out some new techniques on this Tender Support system, so Lighthouse will eventually work like that.

thats great news, thanks rick
hey by the way.. if you could figure out a way of me writing rich
emails (ie with inline images) and having that go directly into the
ticket (even if it had to strip the images out and put them as
attached images as per current structure... well, that would be
incredible.. most of my issues need image support so it would be a
killer feature for me.

We have that in Tender, so that'll definitely make it into Lighthouse too at some point. Tender is extremely email-centric, so we've been adding goodies like this and open sourcing as much of it as we can. There are still a few rough edges with certain rich email structures, and we don't send out email notifications with attachments either.

cool. can't wait is tender a viable alternative to lighthouse for internal issue
tracking?
5 Posted by Rick on 16 Feb, 2009 07:50 PM
It's not really an internal issue tracker. In fact, you can't even make it private (yet). It won't be getting milestones, custom states, etc. However, I think it could work. Some people use Basecamp todo comments as their internal ticket tracker.

A Lighthouse ticket was created for this discussion

From a workflow perspective, it would be really helpful to be able to Paste images directly into Ticket descriptions (rather than attaching as files). We do a lot of screen grabs using JING to illustrate change requests, and the current workflow is very awkward. ;-)
Sounds like this has been requested before and maybe partially developed...any chance it'll be available soon?

How do you mean you'll paste images? Are you going to dump URLs in
the body or use the markdown image tags?
We are working on the UI and backend for this currently. Once we have
the backend for uploading images and displaying thumbnails, I can
think about nice little shortcuts like this too.

The ideal workflow would be to avoid introducing the interim step of URL for images. So, above, I meant literally pasting images (via windows copy/paste) into the Ticket body. I realize this may not be compatible with "markdown" ... but, for us at least, most change requests include a screen grab and there does not seem to be a graceful way to handle this in markdown currently.
Currently, we do a screencapture (1 click) and paste it into an (HTML) email or Word doc (2nd click). We'll add descriptive text and send (3rd click). Our developers & designers get an integrated visual representation of the change request (0 clicks). Given the minimalist philosophy of Lighthouse, it would be great if your UI were as click-efficient.
Having to save screengrabs as JPG files, then upload/link them, then view them as thumbnails, etc. introduces many extra steps and results in a less far less elegant workflow. Since we repeat this process for every Change ticket, anything that slows our ticket creation process down so substantially would be a real problem ;-)
Thanks!

What's the ETA for image previews in Lighthouse? It's especially useful when selecting between multiple attachments.
12 Posted by Will Duncan on 03 Jan, 2010 12:52 AM
Hey Keith,
We don't currently have a rock solid ETA on that, but it is in the works and expected in the next set of items on our roadmap.

Is there a published roadmap somewhere?
14 Posted by Will Duncan on 20 Sep, 2010 09:08 PM
Hey Nick. There is not a published roadmap. The next iteration of Lighthouse is a huge update, so it's taking some time to complete. We should have announcements about it in the near future, although I doubt it will ship for a few more months.
