searching "this week" and "last week" return the same results!!!

The way what we use to power our searches processes "this week" and "last week" is a bit misleading. They are only equal to a single time/date. For example, you can think of "last week" as being equal to saying "this time last week".
What you seem to want is a range of dates and the search to accomplish this would look something like the following:
or for "this week"
The search queries can be very powerful with these and other modifiers but they aren't the friendliest. It's something we're aware of and working towards improving.
