Tag cloud size when viewing filtered tickets

When viewing a sub-set of tickets, I would think it would be beneficial in several cases to view the tags associated with those tickets versus every tag.

I can see where this does NOT work, i.e. you're viewing a subset of tickets BASED on tag... in that case, your tag cloud is instantly greatly limited to the very tag you just selected. This would however be a large help when viewing a subset of tickets based on things like "state" or "assigned to".

My issue is that (obviously) we try to use the tag size within the cloud as a rough indicator of our "hot" items. Particularly we use the tags for categorizing the areas of our software affected by a specific ticket. I'd like to be able to not have our resolved tickets playing into the sizing of the cloud as it displays an untrue sense of the tags weight. Once the ticket is resolved/invalidated, etc, we no longer focus on it and it does not apply in the sense of moving forward and completing tasks.

A partial solution would be for us to periodically move resolved/invalid tickets to another project, however we then lose the milestones they were attached to and would have to reconstruct our milestones in that secondary project.

I'm sure there would be some way to provide a filtered tag cloud, whether that's a preference for the cloud for the project (default filter perhaps), or just keying off of the tickets currently displayed, etc.

Ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. Tags are definitely a weak point right now.

We're redoing tags in a few ways; (1) having the option of 'official'
    tags vs user tags, which should cut down the list on some projects;
and (b) redoing the way they're displayed so that, yes, it only shows
sizes from open tickets. This should go live with the upcoming
    redesign.

That sounds great. Thank you for the quick reply.

I know this is a somewhat rhetorical question (we're talking software here), but... when do you think the new version will be live? Is there an estimated launch date or month that you're expecting the new software? Also, is there an expected feature list?

    Thanks again

No, we've got an internal schedule but we've found it's best if we
don't publicize these. "When it's done" is pretty much the answer.
We're adding things like estimation points, simplifying the way tags
work, adding things like machine tags, and improving milestone
functionality. We'll be posting articles on our blog as we develop
    these.
